That very night God appeared to Solomon and told him, “Ask what I am to give you.” Solomon replied to God, “You showed great gracious love to my father David, and have established me as king in his place. Now, LORD God, your promise to my father David is fulfilled, because you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom now, so I may go in and out among this people, because who can rule this great people that belongs to you?” God told Solomon, “Since you had this in mind, to ask neither to focus on riches, wealth, honour, or the lives of those who hate you, nor have you requested a long life, but instead you have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself, so that you may rule my people over whom I have established you as king, wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. Furthermore, I will give you riches, wealth, and honour—such as none of the kings owned who lived before you and none after you are to ever attain their equal.”     (2Ch 1:7-12 ISV)

I love this verse in 2 Chronicles. Here we see Solomon asking God for Wisdom so that he can rule God’s kingdom. God responds by, not just giving him wisdom, but riches, wealth and honour because God was pleased with Solomon’s motive. Most of us will never be rulers of a kingdom such as Solomon. But in the on-line world, just as in the real world (don’t forget that that still exists), we are kings and queens of our own sphere of influence. If you are a blogger you are ruler of that blog, if you are a web master you are lord of that domain, on Facebook you are prince of your page and so on.

We must continuously bear in mind that whether intentionally or not, our actions on the internet have a wide reach. We reach out to people we most likely will never meet. We say things to people who cannot ask us for clarity as they would during a normal conversation. We must remember that as masters of our sphere we are masters of a kingdom. The question is do we make our kingdom one that belongs to God or to ourselves.

Jesus, reminiscent of Solomon, reminds us to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Mat 6:33 ESV) We must strive to do this. To always try to give due honour to God, to make the online realm God’s realm. When writing that blog post, adding that graphic, posting that comment, interacting with others, sending that tweet we must always seek to honour God’s kingdom. Perhaps this is the best way to generate traffic to your site? I think it is. Let’s give it a go.
